# Events with several grades and sports

> An event is one tournament made of several competitions, a grade or a sport each, sharing one page, one wallboard and one order of play per sport.

An event is a heading over several competitions: a club's in-house tournament with three or four squash grades set by rating and a tennis singles beside them, for example. Each competition in it keeps its own format, scoring, entries and draw. What they share is the event's page, its wallboard, and one order of play for each sport, because they use the same courts.

## How an event is made

- **New event** on Club > Competitions > All competitions starts a new competition with **A new event…** chosen. Type the event's name, then set up its first grade. See [Create a competition and take entries](https://sportsclubos.net/help/competitions/create/index.md).
- On the event's page, **Add a competition** adds the next grade or sport.
- **Add another like this** on a grade's card copies its sport, kind, scoring, rules and approval setting, ready for the next grade down. Type the new grade's name.
- In an event, **Members ask to enter, and I approve each one** is ticked to start with.

## The event's page

Press the event's card on All competitions. Its page shows how many competitions, players, matches on court, to play, results and (for the convener) requests to approve, then the tabs:

- **Competitions:** each competition by sport, with its kind, where it is up to, its scoring, the club ratings in it so far, and its wallboards. A member sees **Ask to enter** on the grades still taking entries, and their own club rating. The convener sees how many are waiting to approve, **Entries**, and **Add another like this**.
- **Wallboards:** every board of the event, to preview and put on a TV. See [Wallboards and putting a board on a TV](https://sportsclubos.net/help/competitions/boards/index.md).
- **Order of play** (the convener): one board for each sport. See [Set match times in the order of play](https://sportsclubos.net/help/competitions/order-of-play/index.md).
- **Details** (the convener): the event's **Name** and **What members see under the name**, each saved as you leave the box.

## Grades and entries

Members ask to enter the grade they think suits them, and the convener settles the grades before each draw. On a grade's **Players** tab, each request shows the member's club rating beside the range of ratings already in that grade. The convener can **Approve**, say **No**, or choose **Put in another grade…** to approve them into another grade of the same sport that is still taking entries.

Each grade is drawn when its own entries close, so one grade can be in play while another is still taking entries. Its board appears once it starts.

## One order of play for each sport

The grades of one sport share one board of courts by time, so nobody is put on two courts at once across grades, and a match is never placed before the matches that feed it. Matches of other competitions on the same courts show on the board as taken.

## What it does not do

- The Competitions page has no way to delete an event or a competition, or to move a competition into or out of an event once it is made. Set the event up before its first grade. An event or competition made by mistake can be removed only by whoever looks after Sports Club OS for your club.
- There are no entry fees and no finals-day scheduler.

> **Not built yet:** The order of play does not book the courts on the booking calendar. Book them separately.
