Pickleball is scored one press a rally. Press the pad of the side that won the rally, and Sports Club OS works out whether that is a point, a second server or a side out, who serves next and from which side, and when the ends change. Starting the scorer, one phone scoring at a time, Undo and recording the result work as for every sport: see [Score a match point by point on a phone](https://sportsclubos.net/help/competitions/score-live/index.md).

## The rules it scores by

A new pickleball competition follows the USA Pickleball Official Rulebook 2026, the edition Pickleball Australia links to:

- Side-out scoring: only the serving side scores. Games are to 11, won by 2 points. A match is one game, or the best of 3 or 5 games. Games to 15 and 21 are offered too.
- In doubles both partners serve before the serve passes to the other side, except at the start of each game, when only the first server serves. So every game starts **0-0-2**.
- No service lets: a serve that touches the net and lands in the right court is in play.

Your club can also offer rally scoring (provisional in the rulebook), the freeze, service lets, a game to 7, games to 25, fixed positions, win by 1 for team play, and other older rules, on Admin > Settings, **Scoring**. See [Set the scoring rules for each sport](https://sportsclubos.net/help/competitions/scoring-settings/index.md).

## Before the first rally

1. Press **Start**.
2. **Who won the toss?** Press the winner.
3. Press what they chose: **Serve** or **Receive**.
4. In doubles, the scorer then asks **Who serves first for** the serving pair, and **Who starts on the right for** the other pair. Press a name each time. The player on the right receives first, and serves first when their side wins the serve.

The status line shows the call: **0-0-2** in doubles, **0-0** in singles.

## Score the rallies

- Press the pad of the side that won the rally.
- The status line gives the call, the server's score first, then in side-out doubles the server's number: **4-2-1**. When the first server loses a rally it says **Second server · 4-2-2**. When the serve passes to the other side it says **Side out · 2-4-1**.
- Under the serving side's points: **Server 1** or **Server 2**, the server's name and their side of the court, for example **Server 2 · MARLOW, right**. Under the other side's points: who receives.
- Players stand by their side's score. The starting server is on the right when their side's score is even, on the left when it is odd, and partners change sides each time their side scores on serve. The scorer works this out for you.
- When a side can win the game with the next rally, its pad says **GAME POINT** (or **MATCH POINT**) and the status line ends with it: **10-4-2 · Game point**. In side-out scoring only the serving side can have one.

### At the start of each game

In doubles, the top of each pad says **On the right** with each player's first letter. Before the first rally of a game, press the other letter if the players are standing the other way round. A side may change its starting server between games.

### Time-outs

After the first rally, the top of each pad shows how many time-outs the side has left this game (**2 left**) and a **Time-out** button. Each side has 2 a game (3 in games to 21). Press **Time-out**: the pads give way to a one-minute count. Press **Time in** when the players are back. Time-outs left are not carried into the next game.

### Replays, faults and putting it right

Press **Decision** under the pads:

- **Replay**: nothing changes. The same server serves again from the same side.
- **Fault by** a side, then the fault: **Non-volley zone**, **Out**, **Into the net**, **Two bounces**, **Service fault** or **Another fault**. The rally goes to the other side, and the history marks the fault (**NVZ**, **OUT**, **NET**, **2B**, **SF**).
- **Wrong server or position**: **Caught before the return: replay**. If the players were standing the wrong way round, press **Swap** with that side's two names: the score stands and the players are put right.
- **Wrong score called: replay**.

### Warnings, fouls and forfeits

Under **More**, each side has **Time-out**, **Medical time-out** (one a player a match, a 15-minute count), **Verbal warning** (one a side a match), **Technical warning**, **Technical foul**, **Forfeit the game**, **Forfeit the match** and **Retired**. The last four ask for a second press.

- A technical foul takes a point from the side, or gives one to the other side if it has none. It never changes the server.
- A side's second technical warning is a technical foul.
- When a side has had a technical warning and a technical foul, the status line says the game is forfeited. The scorer does not forfeit it for you: press **Forfeit the game**.

## The change of ends and between games

In the deciding game (or a one-game match), when a side first reaches 6 (8 in a game to 15, 11 in a game to 21), the pads give way to **Change ends** and a one-minute count. The same server continues. Press **Continue**.

When a game ends, the screen shows who won it and the score, then the 2 minutes between games with **Start game 2** (or 3). The ends change, and the side that received first in a game serves first in the next.

## The court's TV

The TV shows both sides, the games so far, the points now and the serve beside the serving side (**Server 1** or **Server 2** in doubles). Its banner gives the same call as the phone, and the count of a time-out or a change of ends. Under the score is the game so far, rally by rally.

## When the match is over

The scorer shows the result and each game's score, with the points and rallies each side won, how often each side won the serve back and the longest run of points. Press **Record the result**. The draw, table or ladder moves straight away.

If a side retired, the other side is given the points it needed in the game in play, and each game not played is recorded 11-0 (15-0 or 21-0 in longer games), as the rulebook records it. A forfeited match is recorded to nil in every game. Your club can choose to keep the score as played instead.

## Rally scoring

Where the competition plays rally scoring, every rally scores a point, each side has one server a turn, and the call is two numbers: **5-3**. When the serve passes, the status line says **Side out · 4-5**, and the side lines up by its new score and serves from the right. With the freeze, a receiving side that wins the rally at game point gets the serve and no point: **Side out, no point**.
