# Your first shift on the bar

> For bar staff: set when you can work, answer your shifts, use the till on your shift, and report your hours afterwards.

Who this is for: Anyone with “Own shifts, availability and hours” or “Use the till” (by default: Administrator, Head Coach, Casual Staff, Bar Manager, Bar Staff).

On the bar you use Sports Club OS for three things: your shifts, the till, and the hours you worked. It works in a web browser on your phone or the bar's computer. The Bar Staff role covers all three by default.

## Before your first shift

- **Sign in.** The bar manager adds you as staff with your email address, and you get an invitation email with a temporary password. Sign in with it and choose your own password. See [Sign in, and reset a forgotten password](https://sportsclubos.net/help/getting-started/signing-in/index.md).
- When you sign in, Sports Club OS opens **My shifts**.

Your menu is short: **Till** under **POS**, and **My shifts**, **My hours** and **My availability** under Me > Staff portal. If you are also a member of the club, your member pages are under **Me** too.

## 1. Say when you can work, and how to tell you

Open Me > Staff portal > My availability. If you are casual staff, set your regular week and press **Save my week**, and add any dates you can't work. Under **How to tell me about shifts**, type your mobile number and tick **Email me**, **Text me (SMS)** or both. See [Set your availability and dates off](https://sportsclubos.net/help/me/availability/index.md).

## 2. Answer your shifts

When the bar manager publishes the roster, you get one email or text with your new and changed shifts, and they appear on Me > Staff portal > My shifts. Press **Yes, I'll be there** or **I can't do it** for each, on **My shifts** or from the link in the message. If something comes up after you have said yes, press **I can no longer work this**: the shift stays yours until the manager finds cover. **Open shifts** lists shifts you could pick up. See [See and answer your shifts](https://sportsclubos.net/help/me/answer-a-shift/index.md).

## 3. Use the till on your shift

Open **Till** under **POS** on the bar's computer or tablet.

- **Start of shift:** open a till session with the float in the drawer. Cash can be taken only while a session is open. See [Open and close a till session, and count the drawer](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/open-and-close/index.md).
- **Selling:** press the products, choose how the customer pays (cash, EFTPOS, a member's account or prepaid credit), and the sale is done. See [Make a sale and take payment](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/sell/index.md).
- **Tabs:** open a tab for a table or a member and add to it through the night. See [Open, add to and close a tab](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/tabs/index.md).
- **End of shift:** count the drawer before the till tells you what it should hold, then close the session.

If the till is set up for PIN sign-in, you switch in with your own till PIN, set on **Password & two-factor** in your account menu. Everything you sell is recorded against your name. See [Till PINs and switching between staff](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/pins/index.md).

The till checks licensed hours and ages for you: it will not sell alcohol outside the club's licensed hours, or to a member it knows is under 18, and it reminds you to check the ID of visitors and guests. If the connection drops, the till keeps making most sales and sends them when it is back. See [The till says it is offline](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/q-offline/index.md).

Voids, refunds and larger discounts need a manager. See [Voids, refunds and manager approval](https://sportsclubos.net/help/pos/refunds-and-overrides/index.md).

## 4. Report your hours

After the shift, open Me > Staff portal > My hours. Your finished shift is under **To report**: press **I worked these hours**, or **Different times** if you started or finished at other times or had a break. The manager approves your hours. See [Report the hours you worked](https://sportsclubos.net/help/me/report-hours/index.md).

## Who to ask

- **The bar manager:** shifts, time off, the till, overrides, and hours that need changing after approval.
- **The club's administrator:** your login.
- **Help and feedback**, the button at the top right, for how to do something in Sports Club OS. See [Ask Help and feedback how to do something](https://sportsclubos.net/help/getting-started/help-and-feedback/index.md).
