How to

Apply to join the club

Fill in the club's join form for yourself, your child or your family, confirm your email address, and what happens until the committee decides.

Who this is for: Anyone: no sign-in needed.

Clubs that use Sports Club OS have a join form on the web. It needs no login, and takes about five minutes. You send it, confirm your email address, and the club takes it from there.

Before you start

  • You need the name of a member who will propose you, with their membership number or email address. If you do not know any members, you can write a few sentences to the committee instead.
  • A seconder, a second member who knows you, is welcome but not required.
  • For someone under 18, a parent or guardian applies, with their own name, email address and mobile.

Choose a membership

The form opens with the club's memberships. Each shows who it is for, the yearly fee, any joining fee (paid once), what it includes, and what joining now costs for the rest of the club's membership year, for example Join this month: $530 for the 9 months to 31 July.

A family membership is for several people at one address, at least one of them an adult; each person pays the family rate for their age.

Press a membership, then Apply for ….

The five steps

The form shows Step 1 of 5 and so on. Continue → checks each step before moving on, and says what is missing. ← Back returns to the step before.

  1. Who is joining? Title, first name, surname and date of birth. For a family, + Add another person for each. Your age must suit the membership chosen; the form says which to choose if it does not.
  2. Your details (or Parent or guardian, and address for a child): email, mobile, home address, suburb, postcode, profession, and what brings you to the club.
  3. In an emergency: who to call, their mobile and their relationship to you. Then Other clubs: whether you are, or have been, a member of another club, and whether a club has ever refused or cancelled your membership.
  4. Who is proposing you? Press I know a member and give your proposer's name, their membership number or their email address, and how long they have known you, and a seconder if you have one. Or press I don't know any members and tell the committee about yourself.
  5. Check and send: everything you entered, each with Change. Read the club's membership rules, tick to agree, and type your full name, which takes the place of a signature. Press Send my application.

Confirm your email address

The form says Check your email. You are sent an email, Confirm your membership application. Open it and press Confirm my application, then Confirm and send on the page that opens. Until you do, the club does not see your application. The link works for 30 days.

The page then says Thank you. Your application is with the club., and what happens next.

What happens next

  1. Your proposer is emailed, to confirm they know you. They do not need to sign anything.
  2. The committee considers your application at its next meeting.
  3. You are emailed the result. If you are elected, you are welcome at the club straight away. Your first invoice is due within a month.

If something goes wrong

  • No email arrives. Look in your junk folder. If it is not there, contact the club.
  • "We already have an application from this email address today." Look for the email asking you to confirm the one already sent.
  • "This link has expired or is not right. Please contact the club." The link is more than 30 days old, or was cut short when copied. Contact the club.
  • "Applications are not open at the moment. Please contact the club." The club is not taking applications just now.
